About Torch Lake...
Torch Lake is one of the most beautiful lakes in
the world behind Lake Geneva (Switzerland) and
Lake Louise (Canada). It ranks first in water
volume and second in size among Michigan's
inland lakes.

- Indians called the lake Wass Waganing (place of birch bark torch)
and used torches to fish for whitefish at night
- You may hear a native Torch Laker talk about "a five color day",
when the lake sparkles with five distinct shades of blue

Unique Opportunities
The "famous" Torch Lake Sandbar can
be viewed from the resort and is only seconds
away by boat, minutes away by foot.
Beautiful and tranquil Torch River, a restaurant and a convenience store
are all within walking distance of the Resort.
Game fish are lake trout, rock bass, yellow perch, small mouth bass,
muskie, ciscoes, brown trout, rainbow trout and
whitefish.
Casinos: There are 4 casinos nearby, one on each side of Grand Traverse
Bay and 2 in Petoskey. Turtle Creek is on the
east bay in Williamsburg and Leelanau Sands is
on the west bay in Suttons Bay.
The Village of Alden is on the southeast side of Torch Lake. It is
well-known for its quaint shops, fabulous
antiques, creative crafts and family dining.
Alden is a short drive from Northwind Resort.
Golfing: If you have not teed off on the great championship courses in
the area, you should be teed off, since
great golfing abounds!
Have fun swimming, boating, jet skiing, riding on your pontoon, hiking or
biking!
